Angel investors are accredited individuals who invest in private companies. They often provide mentoring and advice as well as capital. Angel investors typically learn about and discuss investment opportunities with other investors they know. Forming angel groups allow these individual investors to get together on a regular basis to review deals that have been screened through a formal review process. In angel groups investments are made by one or more individuals at their own discretion, acting alone or in syndicate. Angel funds, on the other hand, make investments on behalf of shareholders.
Angels receive many benefits from belonging to angel groups:
A structure for prescreening deals |
Exposure to more deals, while maintaining individual privacy |
Expert insight on potential investments |
Shared time and expense for due diligence |
Deal syndication to leverage personal investments |
Camaraderie with other business leaders |
