Phase I applicants may elect to apply the company’s entire cash match toward business consulting services provided by Washington Technology Center’s list of preferred business consultants (see below) instead of using these funds for research project costs.
Process:
- Prior to proposal submission and upon request, the company is provided with a business consulting service information packet. Contact Sue Hollis at 206-616-3101 or via email at shollis@watechcenter.org, to answer questions regarding this option.
- At the time of proposal submission, the company can elect to use its entire cash match towards the Business Consulting Services from a consultant through WTC’s list of preferred business consultants (see below).
- After the RTD grant awards have been made, the selected consultant will meet for up to an hour with companies who are awarded the grant and have selected the business consulting option. The purpose of this meeting is to determine the scope of work and the schedule of the business consulting project. If both parties come to agreement of the scope of work and schedule of the consulting project, the company will need to execute a set of professional services contracts documenting the scope of work and deliverables of the project. If an agreement cannot be reached, the company is given an option to redirect its entire cash match towards its research project instead.
- If the company decides to redirect its entire cash match towards its research project, a revised budget will need to be resent to the research institution’s grant office for approval and forwarded to WTC. Project will begin after revised budget’s approval is received by WTC.

Phase II and III applicants may use the company’s cash match to fund a portion of the research project. Alternatively, they may elect to use all or part of the company’s cash match to work with WTC’s list of preferred business consultants (see below).
Process:
- Teams interested in pursuing the Business Consulting option should contact Elaine Kong at 206-616-1078 or elainek@watechcenter.org, or Sue Hollis at 206-616-3101 or shollis@watechcenter.org.
- Once a team has selected a consultant from the list of preferred business consultants (see below), discussions should begin early in the proposal process to allow ample time for formulating a meaningful business consulting proposal and determining the research and business consulting option budgets.
- Teams opting for Business Consulting are required to include in the RTD proposal a project plan approved by the selected business consultant (see project plan outline below).
